The Tasmanian Government is setting the course for the next phase of growth in the State's visitor economy, today launching the 2030 and Beyond Visitor Economy Action Plan and the Cruise Shipping Action Plan.
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Roger Jaensch, said the next action plan, led by Tourism Tasmania, in partnership with industry, builds on the strong progress made under the 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy.
"The tourism and hospitality sector is one of Tasmania's most important industries, and this work will help guide the continued sustainable growth of Tasmania's visitor economy through to 2030 and beyond," Minister Jaensch said.
"Our first Visitor Economy Strategy Action Plan had strengthened Tasmania's reputation as a world-leading tourism destination, which is why we must keep the momentum going.
"Our Government is delivering sustainable growth, with visitor numbers and spending increasing significantly since the strategy was launched in 2023.
"We have also just had our best summer period ever, leading to a record 1.4 million visitors spending $3.8 billion in our State during the year to May.
"The 2030 and Beyond Visitor Economy Action Plan will ensure Tasmania remains well placed to continue to grow our visitor economy in a way that benefits communities, businesses and visitors alike."
Alongside the Action Plan, the Tasmanian Government has also launched the Cruise Shipping Action Plan.
Developed by Tourism Tasmania in partnership with TasPorts, government agencies and industry stakeholders, the Cruise Shipping Action Plan provides a coordinated approach to maximising the benefits of cruise tourism while ensuring it remains sustainable.
"Together, these plans provide a clear roadmap to strengthen Tasmania's visitor economy, ensuring we can continue to build on our reputation as a world-leading tourism destination," Minister Jaensch said.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are backing our tourism industry and ensuring growth is sustainable and delivers lasting benefits for Tasmanians."
