Delivering more housing in Wynyard

Michael Ferguson,Minister for State Development, Construction and Housing

The Wynyard community is invited to find out more about the plans for two in-fill subdivisions that will deliver 68 new lots, most of which will be available for affordable home purchase.

Communities Tasmania project staff will be available to talk directly with interested people at the Wynyard Bowls Club on Thursday, 23 September 2021.

Members of the community are welcome to pop in for a chat between 9:00 am – 12:30 pm noting that COVID-safe precautions will be in place, including managing numbers in the venue at any one time.

The subdivision proposed at 28 Bowick Street has capacity for 36 new lots and the subdivision at Hales Streets has capacity for a further 32 lots.

The majority of these new lots will be available for affordable home purchase under the Tasmanian Liberal Government's HomeShare program.

HomeShare provides assistance to Tasmanians on low incomes who want to own their own homes. It works by reducing the cost of buying a house, as well as reducing the monthly cost of owning it.

Under the scheme eligible home buyers share the cost of buying their home with the Director of Housing.

These subdivisions are contributing to the Tasmanian Government's commitment to release a total of 670 lots of land under the Affordable Housing Strategy 2015-2025.

The Tasmanian Government has also invested an additional $10 million into HomeShare to assist an additional 100 households.

Construction on the Wynyard subdivisions is scheduled to start in January 2022 subject to the finalisation of project documentation and planning approvals.

The lots will be available for purchase from June 2022.
