Delivering TAFE Training That Leads To Jobs In Stawell

Students in Stawell will have access to more TAFE training that leads to a job thanks to a funding boost by the Andrews Labor Government for a new partnership between South West TAFE and local businesses.

The Labor Government is investing $435,000 in South West TAFE to deliver Certificate III in Individual Support in partnership with local aged care provider Eventide Homes and Certificate II in Horticulture to support Nectar Farms’ new local greenhouse facility, creating 150 jobs.

Eventide has recently expanded due to the increased demand for local aged care accommodation and requires more personal care workers, while Nectar Farms is set to commence construction of a state-of-the-art glass house facility on 45 hectares near Stawell.

Both courses will be developed and delivered by South West TAFE at Eventide’s and Nectar Farms’ Stawell facilities and make sure these employers have the locally trained workforce they need to keep pace with demand.

To make it easier to access training, the Government is investing $172 million to make 30 priority TAFE courses and 20 pre-apprenticeship courses that lead to jobs that are most in demand from Victorian employers tuition free.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 is investing an additional $644 million to strengthen TAFE, address skills shortages and ensure all Victorians can access the training they need to get a good job.

As noted by Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney

"These two projects are an example of our TAFE system at its best, delivering training that students can access close to home and that gets them a job."

"It’s fantastic to see both TAFE and local businesses coming together to meet the needs of local industries and the community."

"After years of devastating cuts to TAFE by the previous Liberal Government we’re making the record investments needed to put TAFE back at the heart of training in Victoria."
