Dementia Australia Backs Central Highlands

Dementia Australia

Are you concerned about your memory or worried that someone you know may have dementia? Dementia Australia is offering support in the Central Highlands, Queensland, between 17-19 March, 2026.

It is estimated there are almost 88,200 people living with dementia in Queensland. Without a medical breakthrough this number is expected to increase to more than 168,300 people living with dementia by 2054. 

The Dementia Australia sessions are an opportunity for people living with dementia, their carers, family, and friends to attend free education to better understand dementia and to discuss the support and services Dementia Australia can provide. Please note, bookings are essential. 

  Understanding Dementia

This session provides an introduction to dementia including an overview of different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning ahead and how to support someone living with dementia.

  EDIE for Family Carers

This session enhances knowledge of dementia through virtual reality technology that allows participants to see the world through the eyes of a person living with dementia.

Creating a Dementia-Friendly Emerald

Are you passionate about creating a community where everyone is valued, understood, and supported? A dementia-friendly community is one where people living with dementia feel empowered, respected, and included in all aspects of life. Together, we can make Emerald a place where everyone can thrive. Tuesday 17 March 10am-12pm, Emerald QLD  

Memory & Ageing Session

This session provides information on memory and common changes that may occur with ageing. It provides strategies for improving memory, when to seek help about your concerns, and services provided by Dementia Australia. Dementia Australia's facilitators have specialist knowledge, skills and experience. Tuesday 17 March 1pm-2:30pm, Emerald QLD  

Carer Wellness Program

This session focuses on the health and wellbeing of those involved in caring for a person living with dementia, whether they live with you or elsewhere. Wednesday 18 March 9:30am-2:30pm, Emerald QLD
