Demolition works to begin at 38 Sydney Street, Kilmore

Demolition of the first floor of a heritage listed building at 38 Sydney Street, Kilmore will begin on Saturday 8 October.

Mitchell Shire Council issued a building order for the demolition works of the building originally known as the All Nations Hotel.

Council received a structural engineer's assessment last year which identified safety concerns relating to the integrity of the first floor. The report recommended the first floor be removed for safety reasons.

Council reviewed the report and sought further advice which confirmed the issues regarding the structural integrity of the first floor.

Council's Municipal Building Surveyor confirmed the first-floor needs removing and issued the landowner with a building order on Thursday 27 January 2022.

Carparks from 38 to 46 Sydney Street will be closed to allow the demolition contractor access to the building and room for construction bins to collect debris.

The footpath directly in front of 38 Sydney Street will be closed, traffic management will be in place to guide pedestrians across the road and around the work site and traffic speed in the area will be reduced to 40km/h.

The Mill Street pedestrian mall will continue to be accessible, however sections directly adjoining the building will be restricted.

There will also be infrequent stopping of traffic to enable debris bins to be put in place and collected.

Works will begin on Saturday 8 October and are expected to be completed on Monday 10 October.
