Dep. SecDef Hicks Meets Defense Business Board

U.S. Department of Defense

Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen Hicks hosted the Defense Business Board's second quarterly meeting for fiscal year 2023 at the Pentagon yesterday in a closed, classified session.

During the session, she briefed board members on what the department is doing to speed the transition of cutting-edge technology to warfighters in order to maintain enduring advantages on the battlefield.

Board members asked questions and provided recommendations on how the department can foster a "culture of innovation" within the workforce around data and technology adoption — especially AI, as well as communicate to the public that it is accountable and making business process improvements.

Deputy Secretary Hicks thanked the board members for dedicating their time and expertise toward improving Department of Defense business practices, governance, and culture.

Later in an open public session of the meeting, the Business Operations Advisory Subcommittee presented their latest study on Improving DoD's IT User Experience to the full board for deliberation and approval. The study was approved.
