Department of National Defence invests in innovative and efficient solutions for temporary military camps

National Defence

The Department of National Defence announced today three contribution agreements with Canadian innovators to develop solutions to provide integrated energy, water and waste management systems for relocatable temporary camps (RTC) used by the Canadian Armed Forces.

The contribution agreements, each valued at $1.5 million for a total of $4.5 million, are being funded through the Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program. The recipients are:

  • Terragon Environmental Technologies Inc.'s Autonomous Resilient Community Systems (ARCS);
  • Innocorps Research Corporation's Circular City; and
  • SNC-Lavalin Inc.'s Integrated Utility Management System.

These contribution agreements are the result of the IDEaS program Pop Up City contest call. All three winning teams have now moved on to the fourth round of the contest where they will develop a testable prototype of their integrated solution and compete for the final grand prize of $2 million.
