The Hon Dr Anne Aly MP
Minister for Early Childhood Education
Minister for Youth

Applications are now open for the Albanese Government's 2024 Youth Advisory Groups, ensuring young people have input on the policies and programs impacting them.

Young people aged 16 to 25 are encouraged to apply for new Youth Advisory Groups, to have the opportunity to work with their peers and provide direct advice to government in 2024.

Minister for Youth Dr Anne Aly said the Youth Advisory Groups are an important part of ensuring young people are heard and respected right across government.

"Young people have valuable insights and perspectives, we know that by working with them we can deliver a better future for all of us," Dr Aly said.

"No experience is required to be a member of one of the advisory groups, I encourage young people from all backgrounds to apply and take advantage of this unique opportunity."

The five new advisory groups will be made up of up to eight young people each from diverse backgrounds, with all states and territories represented along with regional, rural, and remote areas of Australia.

The five 2024 Youth Advisory Group topics are:

  • Civic Engagement
  • Creative Industries
  • Employment
  • First Nations Education
  • Prevention of Gender-Based Violence

As part of the Government's new Youth Engagement Model, five Youth Advisory Groups are selected each year with policy topics and group membership changing annually.

Some members of the 2023 First Nations Youth Advisory Group will transition to the new First Nations Education Youth Advisory Group in 2024, with applications needed to fill the remaining positions.

Applications are encouraged from young people from all backgrounds, including young people with disability, with lived experience of mental ill-health, and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Successful candidates will need to be available for online training in January and February 2024, as well as for travel to Canberra over 19-22 March 2024 for in person meetings. The Government will cover the cost of this travel.
