Deprivation of liberty at Mareeba, QLD

Tablelands detectives have charged a 28-year-old Mareeba man with deprivation of liberty and weapons offences following an incident at Mareeba late last night, Queensland Police say.

At about 11.30pm, it is alleged a man attended a Springmount Road address armed with a rifle.

It is alleged the man confronted two woman at the address during which time he has discharged the firearm into the ground.

It is further alleged the man has forced one of the women to leave the address in the man’s vehicle.

Police responding to the incident located the man and the woman at a Shaban Close address where the man was taken into custody without any further incident.

The man has been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of weapon, dangerous conduct with weapon and deprivation of liberty.

The man will appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on February 6.

The man and the two women are known to each other.

No one was injured during the incident.
