Deprivation of liberty in Mitchell, QLD

A 22-year-old Manunda man appeared in Roma Magistrates Court today following investigations into a woman allegedly held against her will and seriously assaulted over a period of several weeks, Queensland Police say.

Around 5pm yesterday, during an intercept of a vehicle on the Warrego Highway, Mitchell, police noticed the 22-year-old woman driving the vehicle was visibly distressed and had injuries to her face.

Police allege a 22-year-old man was later found hiding in a small alcove in the vehicle.

The pair allegedly met three months previously and the alleged offences occurred between January 2 and March 5 at various Queensland locations.

The 22-year-old man has been charged with four counts of rape, eight counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, four counts of strangulation, two counts of wilful damage, two counts of deprivation of liberty, one count of possess dangerous drugs, one count of possess drug utensils and one count of obstruct police.

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries including facial fractures, bruising and cuts to her body.

The man has been remanded in custody to reappear in court at a later date.
