Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance speaks with provincial and territorial counterparts

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland held her first teleconference with provincial and territorial Finance Ministers.

During the call, the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the value of frequent federal provincial and territorial coordination as Canada continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic while safely restarting the economy.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the Team Canada approach, in which all orders of government work together for the common good, has been integral to this country's success to date in confronting the pandemic.

She asserted that the Government of Canada will continue to do whatever it takes to help Canadian individuals, families, and businesses weather this pandemic and emerge stronger, since public health and economic health go hand in hand. Ministers also discussed supporting small businesses and how best to do so.

All Ministers reaffirmed their support for a united approach, and the importance of closely coordinating their efforts, moving forward.
