Detectives appeal for public assistance after Newport carjacking

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released images of a vehicle stolen during a carjacking in Newport on Tuesday 23 April.

Investigators have been told a 27-year-old Newport man parked his Ford Focus at a Melbourne Road railway station about 5.20am and was walking away when a male offender approached him.

Armed with a metal pole, the offender threatened the victim and made demands for his car keys.

The victim handed over his keys before the offender got into the black Ford Focus sedan, with registration ZTU695, and fled north on Melbourne Road.

The victim was not injured during the incident.
