Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged an alleged kidnap crew after foiling two planned kidnappings earlier this year.
About 3pm on Saturday 24 January 2026, detectives attached to State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad – with assistance of Raptor Squad – stopped a hire van on Eastern Road, Turramurra.
During a search of the vehicle, detectives allegedly seized ammunition, balaclavas, cable ties and a pistol located nearby, believed to have been thrown out the window.
Three men – aged 22, 29 and 31 – were arrested and taken to Hornsby Police Station.
The 22-year-old man was charged with conspiracy to commit take/detain person in company with intent obtain advantage, armed with intent commit indictable offence and possess loaded firearm public place.
The 29-year-old man was charged with conspiracy to commit take/detain person in company with intent obtain advantage, armed with intent commit indictable offence and possess loaded firearm public place.
The 31-year-old man was charged with conspiracy to commit take/detain person in company with intent obtain advantage, armed with intent commit indictable offence and possess loaded firearm public place and acquire pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order.
All three men were refused bail and appeared at Bail Division Local Court 7 on Sunday 25 January 2026.
Detectives allege the group was travelling to Wahroonga to kidnap an unknown person when they were stopped.
Strike Force Caledon was established by State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad to investigate further.
As inquiries continued, detectives identified the 29-year-old and 31-year-old man were also allegedly conspiring to kidnap another man from Revesby on Monday 26 January 2026.
About 10am on Wednesday 29 April 2026, both men were each charged with a further offence of conspiracy to commit take/detain person in company with intent obtain advantage.
They were refused bail and appeared at Bail Division Local Court 2 the same day.
Following extensive inquiries, about 7.20am today (Tuesday 2 June 2026), strike force detectives – with assistance of Raptor Squad – executed a search warrant in Austral.
A 29-year-old man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit take/detain person in company with intent obtain advantage and fail to comply digital evidence access order direction.
He was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Tuesday 2 June 2026).
