Detectives investigate stabbing in CBD

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of an injured man at the base of a fire escape at a hotel in Melbourne this morning.

Emergency services were called to the King Street premises following reports the man had fallen just before 3am.

The man has been taken to hospital under police guard as detectives are investigating whether the man is linked to an earlier incident outside the hotel where a man was stabbed.

Detectives have arrested a woman as part of their investigation into the stabbing and she is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The 43-year-old's arrest follows a report to police that a group of people were fighting on King Street, near the intersection of Bourke Street, on Saturday 10 October just after 9.30pm.

When police arrived a 46-year-old man was found with suspected stab wounds and was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Police have a number of follow up enquiries to make in relation to another man who is believed to be involved and remains outstanding.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
