About 6.50pm on Sunday 29 December 2024, emergency services were called to Sutherland Street in Canley Heights following reports of a shooting.
A 31-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for gunshot wounds; however, he could not be revived.
The man has since been identified as David Khou.
A short time later, emergency services were called to an abandoned car alight on Bathurst Street in Wakeley.
State Crime Command's Homicide Squad with detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command established Strike Force Loughrea to investigate.
A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged. He remains before the courts.
As inquiries continue, police have released CCTV footage of a man they are seeking to identify, believing he may have interacted with the two offenders on Bathurst Street in Wakeley as they set fire to the stolen Audi. The man is not suspected of being involved in the incident.
Investigators have also shared CCTV showing the alleged staging of the stolen Audi prior to the shooting. The footage captures the Audi travelling in convoy with a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee, moving from Dalpra Crescent in Bossley Park, to the Fairfield West area, at around 2am on Sunday, 29 December 2024.
Further CCTV shows the moments leading up to David Khou's death, capturing an unknown offender chasing the victim across St Johns Road in Cabramatta West, before leaving in a white Audi.
Following the shooting, the two alleged offenders set the Audi alight on Bathurst Street in Wakeley. CCTV from Smithfield Road shows the pair running towards a nearby carpark, before leaving in a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have observed these two offenders on St Johns Road in Cabramatta West or in the Wakeley area on 29 December 2025.
