Detectives release image of man as investigations continue into armed robbery near Wollongong

Detectives have released images of a man as investigations continue into an armed robbery in Balgownie last month.

About 11pm on Monday 17 August 2020, a man – armed with a firearm - entered licensed premises on Balgownie Road, Balgownie, and threatened two employees.

The man demanded cash before leaving the scene on a motorcycle. He was last seen riding north on Church Street, Balgownie.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and commenced inquiries.

As inquiries continue, detectives have released CCTV images from the incident and are appealing for anyone who may be able to assist with their inquiries to come forward.

The first image depicts a man who may be able to assist with inquiries. He was last seen wearing a motorcycle helmet and distinctive blue and orange 'Avengers' backpack at the time of the incident.

The second image depicts a blue SUV that was travelling west on Balgownie Road, before turning right on to Church Street, about 11pm on the night of the armed robbery. Police believe the driver of this vehicle may have witnessed the incident and are appealing for this person to come forward.
