Homicide Squad detectives are appealing to locate a Sydney rapper as investigations into the murder of a man in Surry Hills last year continue.

About 7.45pm on Friday 22 November 2024, emergency services were called to a service station on Cleveland Street in Surry Hills following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command found a man suffering fatal gunshot wounds.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, died at the scene.

The man has since been identified as 31-year-old Niddal Acherkouk.

A short time later, emergency services were called to Kensington Road in Kensington, following reports of a car fire which police treated as linked.

Local police established crime scenes at both locations and commenced initial inquiries before the investigation was handed over to the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, supported by the NSW Crime Commission, under Strike Force Moorlands.

Homicide Squad detectives believe Mr Acherkouk had parked his car at the service station at about 6:40pm before going to dinner at a nearby Turkish restaurant.

It was on his return to the car that Mr Acherkouk was ambushed by two shooters who covered their faces. One was also wearing a poncho to conceal his appearance.

In September 2025, strike force detectives applied for a warrant for the arrest of 31-year-old Harley Johan, also known by his rap name 'YC EWZY'.

Harley Johan is currently believed to be offshore.

Detectives have also released CCTV of a man who they are appealing for public information to identify.

The man in the CCTV is described as being of medium build, wearing a black Nike hooded jacket, blue track pants and white/blue Nike runners.

Police believe that the alleged offenders drove from the scene to Kensington Road in Kensington and set alight a stolen Porsche, before fleeing in another stolen white Audi hatchback.

Anyone with information about the location of Harley Johan, or identity of the second man, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigations under Strike Force Moorlands continue.

Anyone with information that may assist investigations into organised criminal activity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
