Devonport Teenager Passes Away In Hospital, After Mersey Bluff Swimming Accident, TAS

Sadly police confirm that 14-year-old Georgia Lewtas passed away yesterday following a swimming accident in the waters off the Mersey Bluff in Devonport on 11 December, Tasmania Police say.

"Georgia’s family would like to thank the efforts of Tasmania Police, Surf Life Saving Australia and Ambulance Tasmania," said Inspector Stuart Wilkinson.

"The family have expressed their appreciation for the assistance provided by the staff at the Mersey Community Hospital and the Royal Hobart Hospital.  They have thanked the good Samaritans that went to the aid of Georgia when she was in the water."

"Understandably this is a very distressing time for Georgia’s family and they have asked that their privacy be respected at this very difficult time".

Our thoughts and condolences are with all affected by this tragic event.
