Diamond in Moree dust wins Landcare Award - and now you can too

Landcare Australia

8 September 2021 | At the National Landcare Awards last month, Justin and Lorrai Kirkby from NSW scooped the Australian Government Landcare Farming Award.

Now it's time for more another inspiring producers to be celebrated.
In late 2004, the Kirkby's found 280 ha of rundown farm land 50km east of Moree. The land had seen better days and past management decisions had left the soils scalded and in very poor health, to make matters worse, there was little productive pasture and a severe lack groundcover and trees.
However, the Kirby's spotted potential and purchased the property, working hard to restore the productivity ousing a suite of different practices.
Since setting out, the impact has been spectacular – so much so they were able to purchase the neighbours property, an add-on of 610 ha, which they continued to restore, whilst sharing their experience with other farmers.
The Kirby's landcare journey showcases what's possible if you are willing to trial, innovate and persevere with new and evolving practices. And you may know an individual, a group or farming family like the Kirkby's who should be nominated for a 2021 State and Territory Landcare Award.
