Dights Falls drowning and rescue

A man has died, and a woman has been rescued following an incident at Dights Falls in Abbotsford this morning.

Police from the Search and Rescue, Water Police and Airwing along with the assistance of Ambulance Victoria, Fire Rescue Victoria and the SES responded to reports the pair had overturned a canoe in rapid waters about 1.30am

When emergency services arrived on scene, they located the 46-year-old Upwey woman in the water.

A swift-water rescue took place and the woman was carried to safety where she was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital for observation.

The body of the man, who is yet to be formally identified, was retrieved from the water and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
