On 29 August 2025, the Director spoke the annual Conference of the Australian Bar Association in Sydney. The theme of the conference was "Litigating Matters of Public Interest".
The Director's speech focused on the public interest limb of the test for exercising the prosecutorial discretion, as set out in the Prosecution Policy of the Commonwealth.
In her speech, she made some observations about the history of federal criminal law and the development of the Attorney-General's "prosecutorial guidelines", to the Prosecution Policy as we know it today. The Director also explained some of the public interest factors and highlighted the difference when considering whether or not to commence a prosecution against a child.
