Director of Australian Institute of Family Studies Retires

Today, the Honourable Dr Sharman Stone AM has announced her decision to retire from her role as the Director of the Australian Institute of Family Studies.

Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth thanked Dr Stone for her energy, commitment and leadership of AIFS since her appointment.

"Dr Stone has made an invaluable contribution to advancing this important area of family research and enriching social policy development," Minster Rishworth said.

"I look forward to her continuing to make a contribution in the future."

Dr Stone said she was "exceptionally proud" of what AIFS had accomplished under her tenure as Director.

"This includes its important work in contributing to key national strategies including the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children, the Australian Gambling Research Centre, Family Law Reform and the national Early Years Strategy," Dr Stone said.

Dr Stone's retirement will take effect from today. An open, merits-based recruitment process will be conducted in due course to fill the role on a permanent basis.
