Disability Strategy and Action Plan Delivering for Regions

NT Government

All Territorians living with disability deserve equal access to opportunities no matter where they live.

The Territory Labor Government's new Disability Strategy - which was launched last week here - ensures people living with disability in remote regions are provided with better support and access to services.

A regional roadshow to take the new strategy and associated first action plan to the regions is now underway, with Minister for Disabilities Ngaree Ah Kit this week presenting to Katherine locals.

The strategy was developed with expertise from the Disability Advisory Committee and people with lived experience of disability, and is a collaborative approach to creating an inclusive and welcoming Territory, that empowers people with disability through:

protecting and respecting their rights and choices;breaking down barriers to achieve social inclusion and participation;increasing accessibility to places, information and services;providing education, skills and opportunities to increase employment and provide financial security; andsupporting their health and wellbeing.
