Disqualified driver charged after pursuit at Narrabri

A disqualified driver has been charged following a police pursuit at Narrabri today.

Just after 3.30am (Saturday 23 May 2020), officers attached to Oxley Police District observed a Holden Commodore with its rear lights out travelling on Cooma Road, Narrabri, and attempted to stop the vehicle near Bridge Street.

When it allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

It's alleged the vehicle drove towards police after crashing into the side of the road, causing significant damage, however the pursuit continued for a short time.

It's alleged the vehicle drove in excess of 110km/h, despite losing both front tyres and the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later, police observed the Holden Commodore enter a rural property on Purcell Drive and officers followed on foot.

The driver, a 42-year-old man, was found hiding in a tree and was arrested.

He was taken to Narrabri Police Station and charged with police pursuit (not stop), disqualified driving, and use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road.

The man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today.
