Disqualified Driver Charged After Wollongong Chase

A man has been charged after a pursuit throughout Wollongong and Sydney's south.

About 12.30pm yesterday (Saturday 3 May 2025), officers attached to Southern Region were patrolling Lake Avenue, Cringila, when they attempted to stop a sedan without numberplates.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated which continued north along Five Islands Road, before travelling onto the M1 Motorway.

Extra resources, including officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District, Wollongong Police District, Sutherland Shire Police Area Command and Traffic and Highway Patrol, assisted and road spikes were deployed on the Princes Highway, Waterfall.

A short time later, the vehicle stopped on Bundarra Street, Waterfall, after allegedly hiting two police vehicles, and officers arrested the 21-year-old male driver, and his 15-year-old female passenger.

The man allegedly returned a positive roadside breath result and he was taken to Sutherland Police Station where an oral fluid sample was obtained from the man and sent for further analysis.

Checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Arncliffe yesterday (Friday 2 May 2025).

The man has been charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court later today (Sunday 4 May 2025).

The girl has been released without charge; however, inquiries are continuing.
