Disqualified driver charged with drink driving on stolen scooter at Orange

A man has been charged with allegedly drink driving while riding a stolen motorised scooter in the Central West.

About 12.45pm on Saturday (15 May 2021), police responded to reports of a man riding a motorised scooter on a footpath in Summer Street, Orange, forcing pedestrians to move out of the way.

A short time later, officers attached to Central West Police District pursued the man on foot, before stopping him and subjecting him to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.

Further inquiries revealed the man was disqualified from driving until July 2024 and that the scooter did not belong to him.

He was arrested and taken to Orange Police Station, where he was charged with steal motor vehicle, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and drive vehicle under influence of alcohol.

He was granted conditional bail and will appear at Orange Local Court on Monday 31 May 2021.

Police are now searching for the owner of the motorised scooter, which was believed to have been taken from Sir Neville Howse Place, earlier that day.
