Dive into free leisure industry training

Free pool lifeguard and swimming instructor training is available to Eurobodalla residents in response to the large number of positions to be filled when Bay Pavilions opens in Batemans Bay next year.

Eurobodalla Council's employment project officer Amy Kovacs said there would be 180 positions across the facility, up to 60 of which were for lifeguards and swim instructors.

"These aren't positions everyone has the qualifications for, so we want to make sure locals are trained and ready to apply once the jobs go live in January next year," she said.

"The great thing is that this type of work will no longer be seasonal as the aquatic pavilion will be open year-round.

"There will be a range of roles available at Bay Pavilions with opportunities to develop skills for a career in the leisure and recreation industry.

"We're also helping locals with free job application support, from resume writing to interview practice."

Eligible participants for the training include those who are unemployed, underemployed, or aged 17-24 and no longer enrolled at school.

The training courses will run in December and January; lifeguard training over two days, and basic swim instructor training over one day.
