Dog attack - Mudwalls Road in Colebrook, TAS

Police responded to a call for assistance after a woman received significant injuries after being bitten by a dog at a Colebrook property on Sunday night, Tasmania Police say.

A woman was bitten by the family’s pit bull at the Mudwalls Road property about 10:30pm.

Ambulance Tasmania paramedics were unable to provide medical assistance to the woman until police subdued the animal.

Police were required to incapacitate the animal using a firearm after capsicum spray was ineffective. The dog was later euthanised by an Animal Management Officer from the local council.

The woman was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with significant but non-life threatening injuries.

UPDATE:

The owner of the dog contacted in relation to the published story, describing the dog as "happy and friendly towards anyone".

Ashleigh Templar said Boris was a "purebred Johnson bulldog" which was  sleeping on her mother Melinda's lap just before the attack.

"Boris was laying on mums lap and he growled so she moved thinking she was hurting him, then he attacked her, after that he never stopped".

"Boris had NEVER bitten or attacked anyone before and was happy and friendly towards anyone, he would play like a puppy and follow you all day. No aggression in him at all. We are thinking rage syndrome or something like a brain tumour. But I can bet my life he wouldn’t have done that without a medical reason. He loved Mum.".

"Police shot Boris in the leg before shooting him in the head to kill him", said Ashleigh Templar.
