Dog owners are reminded they have until 31 July to renew their dog registration for the 2023/24 rego period.
Around 24,000 renewal notices have been sent out to registered dog owners across the Cairns region.
The most important reason to register your pet and keep your rego details up to date is so Council can quickly return your furry friend if they become lost.
Dog registration fees also help fund Council's animal-related services including:
- Operation of the Animal Care & Education Centre
- Collecting and caring for 800+ pets found wandering each year
- Investigating dog attacks and barking complaints
- Education encouraging responsible pet ownership
- Dog off-leash areas and poo bags
- Patrolling public spaces.
Significant discounts apply for aged pensioners and concession card holders; if your pet has been desexed; or they have completed Level 3 obedience training.
