Domestic violence-rated charges, NSW

A man is due in court charged with multiple domestic violence-related offences after he was arrested in the State’s far south west yesterday, NSW Police say.

Police from Barrier Local Area Command have been told a 49-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by her partner in their home on Lower Darling Road at Pomona, about 270km south of Broken Hill, shortly after midnight yesterday.

Police allege a 49-year-old man punched the woman in the face then began choking her. The woman’s 18-year-old son was also allegedly assaulted, before neighbours intervened.

The man was arrested and taken to Wentworth Police Station where he was charged with:

• Assault occasioning actual bodily harm

• Intentionally choke person with recklessness

• Common assault (two counts)

• Possess unregistered firearm, and

• Not keep firearm safely (two counts).

All firearms subject of the charges belonging to the man have been seized by police, and the man’s firearm’s licence suspended.

The man was bail refused to appear at the Wentworth Local Court today.
