Double fatal traffic crash at Cloncurry

Two people have died after a traffic crash in Cloncurry this morning.

Preliminary investigations indicate around 6.35am a utility vehicle travelling along the Barkly Highway, 26-kilometres west of Cloncurry, has collided with a road train.

As a result of the collision, a 44-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy died.

The driver of the road train was airlifted to the Mount Isa Base Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
