Double the risk - Vehicle impound

A Casey Highway Patrol members have impounded a car impounded in Hampton Park, Victoria Police say.

Casey Highway Patrol intercepted a red Holden Commodore, travelling 134km/h in an 80km/h zone on South Gippsland Highway about 3am.

The 50-year-old woman quickly found herself in more trouble when she returned a positive preliminary breath test.

She was escorted to Narre Warren police station where he returned an evidentiary breath test reading of 0.102%.

The woman’s car will be surrendered to police at a later date.

Nunawading Highway Patrol detected another driver at almost twice the speed limit in Dandenong North this morning.

The 24-year-old Frankston man was travelling 174km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Monash Freeway when police picked him up about 6am on June 10.

The driver is expected to be charged on summons with speeding, speed and manner dangerous and unlicensed driving and fail to accompany for a drug test.

These intercepts form part of Operation Regal, a state-wide focus on road user behaviour and awareness around the importance of taking responsibility for your own actions on the road.

The operation which started on Friday at 12.01am will finish on Monday 12 June at 11.59pm.

Police will target the main causes of fatalities and serious injuries which include; speed, driver distraction, drivers not wearing their seatbelts, fatigue and drink and drug drivers.
