Dr Norman Swan at Bendigo Writers Festival Bookmark event

One of the country's most trusted commentators on the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Norman Swan, is coming to The Capital theatre for the Bendigo Writers Festival Bookmark event to talk about his new book.

Dr Swan is renowned for his clear, no-nonsense, engaging style as a broadcaster and investigative journalist. His ABC Coronacast podcast, co-created with health and science journalist Tegan Taylor, began in March 2020. With regular, timely and well-researched updates on the COVID-19 pandemic, it has quickly built a strong audience and is downloaded by three million people every month.

His new book, So You Think You Know What's Good for You?, is based on 30 years of experience, keeping up to date with the latest in health developments. From vaccinations to stress, nutrition and ageing, this book is being anticipated as a must-have book for all Australians.

Dr Swan's aim was to provide clear information for people so they could make sensible decisions.

'No-one's got time to waste on stuff that doesn't matter, is wrong or isn't focused on your needs," Dr Swan said.

"Our minds have been filled with things to worry about from insomnia, to screen addiction, to guilt about not eating a paleo diet, to when will my eggs clap out and when will his sperm, to what really can make us live longer better?

"My aim is to get you to worry less and give you the information that'll allow you to make sensible decisions, whether you're 25 or 75."

Norman Swan in Conversation will be hosted by Robyn Lindsay, Executive Director Clinical Operations at Bendigo Health, who is responsible for the implementation of their COVID-19 models of care.

City of Greater Bendigo Acting Manager, Bendigo Venues and Events Jacoba Kelly said this was going to be a fascinating event to kick off the Bendigo Writers Festival Bookmark series.

"There's such a huge interest, not just in responses to the pandemic, but also about our health and wellbeing and Dr Norman Swan is so well respected," Ms Kelly said.

"We are delighted that Dr Swan is coming to Bendigo to talk to Robyn Lindsay and I have no doubt our audience will be enthralled by their sparkling conversation and wisdom on no-nonsense health matters.

"This event will be very popular so I encourage people to book soon so they don't miss out."

Norman Swan in Conversation is on Thursday July 8 at 7pm at The Capital.

His book will be on sale at the venue and Dr Swan will be signing copies after the event.
