Drink driver blows 0.201 at Mawson Lakes, South Australia

A drink driver nearly ended up in the drink at Mawson Lakes overnight.

Police were called to a small feature pond off Lakeside Close, Mawson Lakes just before 1am on Monday 19 August after neighbours heard a crash.

Patrols found a black Holden ute had crashed into a shallow water channel between the lake and two keyhole ponds. The driver, who was the only occupant, was not injured.

The 31-year-old O'Sullivan Beach man recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.201 - more than four times the legal limit.

He was arrested and charged with drink driving and issued with a 12 month instant loss of licence. He didn't apply for bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.

The ute was towed from the scene.
