Drink driver caught five times limit

A 47-year-old man from Tasmania's north west has been charged after being caught drink driving, five times the legal limit.

Police were called to the Burnie CBD about 8pm yesterday, where members of the public were trying to prevent the man driving off in his vehicle.

He was taken into custody and returned a reading of 0.245.

"Police would like to thank those community members whose actions helped to remove the intoxicated driver from our roads," said Sergeant Jason Dicker."

"We encourage anyone who witnesses drink driving, or other dangerous driving behaviours to contact us on 131 444 or triple-zero (000) in an emergency."
