A man has been airlifted to hospital following a heavy vehicle crash on the state's south coast today.

About 6am today (Friday 24 March 2023), emergency services were called to Princes Highway, North of Cobargo, following reports of a heavy vehicle crash.

Police have been told the driver of the mobile crane swerved to avoid hitting a kangaroo, before the vehicle struck a guard rail and tipped on its side, trapping the driver.

The 45-year-old man was released by emergency services and treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for leg injuries, before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition.

The Princes Highway has since reopened.
