A man has been charged over an alleged fail to stop crash involving a cyclist who died from injuries sustained in the Lake Macquarie area.
About 11am last Sunday (14 December 2025), emergency services were called to the intersection of the Pacific Highway and Awabakal Drive, Nords Wharf, following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District attended and were told a cyclist and an SUV had allegedly collided.
The cyclist – a 42-year-old man – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
The car – a Toyota FJ Cruiser – allegedly failed to stop after the collision.
A crime scene was established and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced inquiries into the crash.
About 9.50am on Monday (15 December 2025), the cyclist died in hospital.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attended an address on Rusty Lane, Branxton, where a Toyota FJ Cruiser was seized for forensic examination.
A 40-year-old man was arrested at the location and taken to Cessnock Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous and negligent driving (occasioning death).
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Belmont Local Court on Wednesday 14 January 2026.
