Driver charged after incident in Lambton

A man will face court today after his car was pulled over in Lambton this morning, NSW Police say.

About 3am today, police observed a silver Toyota Camry sedan travelling along Coolamin Road, Waratah.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command stopped the vehicle in Griffiths Road, Lambton and spoke to the 52-year-old driver.

During the vehicle stop, police checks on the man revealed he was wanted for outstanding warrants and had never held a licence in New South Wales.

The driver was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with outstanding warrants for fail comply with reporting obligations, custody of a knife in a public place, assault police in execution of duty, resist arrest in execution of duty, fail to appear in court and never hold a licence in New South Wales.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
