Driver Charged After Man Run Over Near Fatal Shooting

Crash investigators have charged a driver after he allegedly pursued and struck a man with a vehicle following a fatal shooting in the state's north last year.

On Wednesday 3 December 2025, emergency services were called to Tyalgum Road, Eungella, after two men – aged 38 and 41 – had allegedly been shot by another man, who then ran from the scene with a fourth man.

The 41-year-old man died at the scene, while the younger man was treated in hospital for a gunshot wound.

Following the incident, detectives attached to Tweed/Byron Police District established Strike Force Bray to investigate the shooting.

As part of ongoing investigations, strike force detectives arrested and charged two men – aged 36 and 45 – over their alleged roles in the fatal shooting. Both men remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, officers attached to Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into reports that the 45-year-old man had been injured after being struck by a vehicle.

Police will allege that, immediately after the shooting, the then 38-year-old man entered a Ford Ranger and drove onto Tyalgum Road, where he allegedly ran over the 45-year-old man before attending hospital for treatment of his own gunshot injuries.

Following these inquiries, police arrested the now 39-year-old man at Murwillumbah Police Station yesterday (Thursday 8 October 2026), before charging him with:

  • Cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent
  • Dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm – drive under the influence

Police will allege in court the driver pursued the 45-year-old man along Tyalgum Road, while driving on the wrong side of the road, before striking him, rather than seeking immediate medical treatment for his gunshot wound.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Murwillumbah Local Court on Wednesday 18 November 2026.
