Driver charged and vehicle impounded

Highway Patrol officers have charged a man after he was allegedly detected driving 248km/h on Eastlink near Thompsons Road overnight.

Officers first observed the red BMW sedan about 11pm.

Police Air Wing then followed the vehicle to the Nepean Highway, Seaford where it's alleged the driver dumped the car and fled.

Local police and the dog squad located and arrested the man in a nearby street.

His car was impounded for thirty days at a cost of $1,390.

A 36-year-old Carrum Downs man was charged with reckless conduct endangering life, driving while suspended and other traffic offences.

He was bailed to appear at the Frankston Magistrates' Court on 6 December.
