A man has been charged and will appear in Court after a child was injured in a suspected hit-and-run near Albury earlier this year.
About 7am on Friday 10 January 2025, emergency services were called to Dick Road, Lavington, after reports a child was hit by a vehicle, which left the scene prior to the arrival of police.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a four-year-old boy for a suspected head injury, before he was taken to Albury Hospital for treatment before being flown to Royal Melbourne Children's Hospital for further treatment.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District responded, established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Strike Force Bygrave, comprising officers from the Riverina Crash Investigation Unit, was formed to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
As part of the investigation, police seized a Holden Commodore utility, which has undergone forensic examination.
Following extensive inquiries by the Riverina Crash Investigation Unit, about 9.20am today (Tuesday 8 July 2025), police arrested a 27-year-old man.
He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he charged with six offences - fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of a motor vehicle, drive whilst disqualified, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and not give particulars to injured person.
The man was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 9 July 2025).
