Driver charged over Claremont crash, TAS

A 37 year old Granton man has been charged over a crash involving a motorbike in Link Road, Claremont, about 5.30pm last night, Tasmania Police say.

The man has been charged with one count of Dangerous Driving Causing Grievous Bodily Harm and will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on 15 May.

Police allege the man drove his vehicle into the path of a motorbike ridden by two youths. The motorbike was alleged to have been stolen from his property earlier yesterday.

The youths were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a stable condition suffering head, arm and leg injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash incident.

Police are also investigating an arson at the Granton address of the man charged, where his $500,000 residence was significantly destroyed about 12.30am this morning.

In particular, police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked.

A cream/yellow mid 80s model small sedan was seen leaving the Black Snake Road property shortly before the fire was reported to authorities.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents should call Glenorchy CIB on 131444 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
