Driver charged while drunk and using mobile phone in school zone - Annandale

A man will face court after allegedly using a mobile phone while drunk in a school zone in Sydney's inner west yesterday.

About 2.50pm (Tuesday 19 March 2019), officers attached to Leichhardt Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting speed enforcement on Johnson Street, Annandale, when they saw a driver allegedly using a mobile phone while travelling through a school zone.

A roadside breath test returned a positive reading and the driver was arrested. During a breath analysis the 38-year-old Tempe man returned an alleged reading of 0.171.

Further checks revealed the man was disqualified from driving until 2022.

He was charged with driving with a high range PCA and driving while disqualified.

The man was granted bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 3 May 2019.

He was also fined $448 and lost five demerit points for using a mobile phone in a school zone.
