Driver critical after hatchback hits power pole - Sylvania

Inquiries are underway after a man was critically injured in a crash at Sylvania earlier tonight.

Emergency services were called to the Princes Highway about 7.30pm (Saturday 18 July 2020), after a Toyota Corolla hatchback left the road and struck a power pole.

The driver, believed to be a man aged in his 30s, was trapped within the wreckage for almost an hour before he was released by officers from Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance.

He was the only person in the vehicle.

The man was taken to St George Hospital suffering multiple injuries; he's reported to be in a critical condition.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) are en-route to the site. Traffic is expected to be impacted for some hours while the scene is examined, and the wreckage removed. Electricity crews will also be working on the damaged power pole.
