Driver Detected Travelling At 100km/h In 50km/h Zone

A 20-year-old driver has been issued an on the spot fine of $1121.15, six demerit points, and been disqualified from driving for four months after he was caught travelling at twice the speed limit in Cressy yesterday.

Members of Northern Road Policing Services were conducting patrols when the white Ford utility was detected travelling at 100km/h in the 50km/h zone near Cressy about 2.30pm.

Sergeant Ben Kromkamp said it was disappointing when drivers put the lives of pedestrians and other road users at risk by disregarding speed limits, particularly in built up areas.

"Tasmania Police would like to remind motorists that our patrols are conducted all over the state, including highways, rural roads and country areas," he said.

"You can continue expect to see us anywhere, anytime – targeting the 'Fatal Five' to help keep people safe on our roads."
