A man has died following a single-vehicle crash in the state's south-west.
Just before 2pm today (Sunday 19 October 2025), emergency services were called to the intersection of the Hume Highway and Westend Lane at Berremangra – about 50km north of Gundagai – following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Traffic South West, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and The Hume Police District attended and were told a grey Toyota sedan had driven down an embankment and crashed into a tree before catching fire.
The driver and sole occupant – a man believed to be aged in his 30s – was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics, but he died at the scene.
NSW Rural Fire Service officers were able to extinguish the fire but not before the vehicle was destroyed.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Inquiries are ongoing.
The Hume Highway is closed northbound at Berremangra due to the crash.
Diversions are in place via Muttama Road to Cootamundra, then Olympic Highway to Wallendbeen, then Burley Griffin Way to rejoin Hume Highway at Bowning.
This diversion is suitable for all vehicles up to 26-metre b-doubles.
Motorists should allow extra travel time through the area and follow directions of emergency services and traffic crews.
