Driver lucky to survive Macclesfield crash

Emergency services responded to a serious crash at Macclesfield overnight.

Nearby residents called police when a car hit a tree on Penna Road, Macclesfield about 12.40am on Friday 3 September. The significant impact tore the roof and doors off the Ford Ranger ute.

The driver, a 42-year-old Mount Barker man, had to be freed from the wreckage. He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital by ambulance in a critical condition, however, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

He was the only occupant of the ute.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and say the man is lucky to be alive.
