Driver Nabbed After High-speed Chase in North Suburbs

A man has been arrested overnight following a pursuit across multiple metropolitan suburbs.

At about 9.45pm on Tuesday 9 June, police spotted a stolen Ford ute exiting a service station on Port Wakefield Road, Bolivar. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply.

The Ford was pursued as it travelled south on the North-South Motorway, allegedly reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h. Due to the dangerous manner of driving, the pursuit was terminated, with the vehicle last seen travelling west on the Port River Expressway.

A short time later, the stolen ute was sighted again, allegedly being driven on the incorrect side of Port Wakefield Road at Gepps Cross. Patrols maintained observations while awaiting the arrival of PolAir.

PolAir took over tracking after the vehicle was sighted on North East Road, following it through several northern and north-eastern suburbs including Para Hills West, Brahma Lodge, Gulfview Heights and Greenwith. Road spikes were successfully deployed multiple times before the vehicle left the road and was dumped after entering a creek bed near Pegasus Court, Yatala Vale.

Police will allege the driver then entered a nearby property and stole a Jaguar sedan from a shed.

The stolen Jaguar was tracked through nearby suburbs, with road spikes again successfully deployed. The vehicle came to a stop on Golden Grove Road, Surrey Downs, where officers moved in and arrested the driver.

A 36-year-old man from Holden Hill has been charged with numerous serious offences including aggravated engaging in a police pursuit, illegal use of a motor vehicle, serious criminal trespass, driving while suspended, carrying offensive weapons, and resisting arrest.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 10 June.

Both stolen vehicles were towed for forensic examination.
