Driver's car impounded for speeding to a soccer game - Kew

Nunawading Highway Patrol police allegedly detected car travelling at 166km/h with the driver claiming he was "running late" for a children's soccer game.

The Volkswagen Tiguan was intercepted on the Eastern Freeway at Kew after it was clocked travelling more than 65km/h over the 100km/h speed limit about 9am on Saturday 5 December.

The driver, a 37-year-old Mentone man, told police he was late for the soccer match, but his speeding only delayed him further as his car was impounded on the spot at a cost of $932.

The man is expected to be charged on summons with speed dangerous and exceed speed by 45 km/h or more.
