Driver serious after collision with truck at Wagga Wagga

A man is in a serious condition after a car and truck collided in Ashmont last night.

About 8.15pm (Wednesday 26 June 2019), emergency services were called to a crash on the Sturt Highway in Ashmont, near Wagga Wagga, involving a car and a truck.

A Toyota Yarris, driven by a 19-year-old man, travelling south on McNickle Road, Ashmont, and a Hino prime mover, driven by a 54-year-old man, collided at the intersection of the Sturt Highway.

The 19-year-old driver suffered serious head injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene, before being taken to Wagga Wagga Hospital.

He was later airlifted to St George Hospital, where he remains in an induced coma.

The passenger of the car, a 19-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and is undergoing treatment at Wagga Wagga Hospital.

The driver of the truck was not injured and was conveyed to hospital by police for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Officers from the Riverina Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
